How do we highlight Health Equity issues in Ventura County?

Community Commission for Ventura County - Spotlight

In 2009, the Community Commission for Ventura County (CCVC) was looking for ways to highlight local data to inspire action to increase the health and well-being of their communities.

Spotlight on the issues

Working in partnership, we strategized about which available local data was most relevant for CCVC's core issue areas of Childhood Obesity, Substance Abuse, Homelessness, Community Violence, and Early Education. From these discussions, we were able to create spotlights around these core issue areas, all housed on a web portal online. Each spotlight had clear statistics with interactive maps and charts showing how regions within Ventura County fared in comparison to the county overall.

Moving from research to action

In order to inspire change, CCVC developed clear calls to action for policymakers, educators, service providers, employers, and individuals so that after viewing the data, they could get directly involved.

Although the web portal no longer exists, efforts for Health Equity continue through the Partnership for Healthy Ventura County (PHVC) http://healthyventuracounty.org/
